So when you lose a day in flight does that mean you're in the future?

So after a wonderfully fabulous and full weekend of getting married and seeing family and friends, Ben and I are now officially on our honeymoon and in New Zealand!
We left SFO on Monday in the hopes of trying to sweet talk our way into an upgrade for our 14 hour long flight. Unfortunately our flight was overbooked and my little makeshift bouquet I brought couldn’t even get us moved up towards the front of the plane. We were three rows from the back with 75 rows. We got all of our meals last, though the attendants did make sure we had enough champagne (given it was an international flight free booze is a given but the sentiment was nice). I also happened to have a rather tall, large man sitting in front of me so my tv screen was mostly 6 inches from my face for most of the flight. After flying on JetBlue so often I think I’m starting to become claustrophobic on regularly spaced seating.
We arrived in Sydney Wednesday morning with plenty of time to make our connecting flight to Auckland. Alas, it was not enough time for our bags to make the journey with us. After arriving in Auckland and watching the little orange sign stating “All of the baggage has been removed from the plane” go around twice we checked in with the baggage people. They couldn’t tell us for sure that our bags had actually left SFO but were assuming that they were in Sydney and would be here on the next flight. Let’s hope so! Of course Ben and I in our dearth of planning for this trip did not pack any change of clothes or other essential items in our carry on bag. I did make sure to bring two books and a pack of gum however.
Customs took the last of my sorry bouquet and washed Ben’s shoes. They take their biosafety very seriously here. The motto seems to be “Declare it or pay us to throw you in jail”
Before leaving we did reserve a 5 day hike on the Milford Track which we are looking forward to. Hopefully my framepack will show up with my hiking boots, otherwise it’s going to be a long 5 days in flip flops!
We have a massage scheduled for tomorrow morning and then will hopefully head out and explore some of Auckland.
BTW- It has been weird to hear “wife” or “husband” to each other!

PS- Our luggage arrived yesterday and we are now on our way out of Auckland. Stay tuned for thoughts on Auckland and driving on the left again!

Many of Ben's friends are thanking Auckland airport for washing Ben's shoes. :)

I'm sure you could fashion a set of clothes out of gum wrappers, if you had enough tape! (I think I saw something similar on project runway one time).
glad to hear you got your stuff eventually though!
